Class Notes 1 and 2
1. We started off struggling to break into our original mentor text groups from a few weeks ago but finally got it. We all named out groups and then them on our index cards. On the back of our cards we drew an encounter we had with a campus squirrel. We proceeded to share our squirrel stories with our groups. Matt then read last class’s log and had us write another short story about either a “Letter Home” or to a “TCU prospective student”.
We then chose a sentence from our mini write and shared it with our groups. Matt then explained that our small groups were gonna make sure we all had each other's emails, and then began talking about our mini mentor texts and what mentor texts we are inspired by. Our groups are supposed to give us feedback on our where i'm from texts. We each took turns reading and commenting on each others google docs.
If your group didnt finish, finish for homework. Read one of the new mentor texts for homework and if you didnt get a mentor text date, email Matt.

2. Today we started class by doing our notecards and drew a self portrait of ourselves with an icecream cone. We then read the log from last class. Cate presented her mentor text talk that was about a podcast she is a part of that is focusing on men’s mental health. She interviews one of the hosts and gets into why they started the podcast and its impact. We then started talking about formatting a paper and citing your sources. We went to the website purdue owl and citation machine and talked about the differences in ways to make a works cited page. Matt walked us through making a works cited page without one of the websites. We then proceeded to make our own works cited page. Matt said the most important thing is to give credit where credit is due.
