My Mentor Text Talk

For my mentor text talk, I showed a performance of a slam poetry piece called “Shake the Dust”.

I discovered the video in English class when I was 13

I like this video because I feel as if he mentions so many different groups of people in categories that one wouldn’t even think to put themselves in.

Anis mojgani writes in an effort to give dignity to people on the margins. The people who are easily overlooked, bullied, and beaten down; those whose stories are mostly uncounted for

The poem is meant to encourage everyone to embrace the stories that they have lived and continue living and writing new stories. In the end he encourages the reader to find the courage to live life to the fullest even at times when we are afraid to.
